Geiranger
A UNESCO fjord ringed by waterfalls — the Seven Sisters falling 250 meters off the rim, abandoned cliffside farms still visible from the water.
Geiranger is the picture-book fjord — the one that ends up on the country’s currency. The Seven Sisters waterfall and the Suitor across the water; the abandoned Skageflå farm clinging to the cliffs above the south side. It is also one of the most photographed places in Europe, and we should expect company — but the views earn it.
What we plan to do here
- Drive the Eagle Road (Ørnesvingen) for the high view down.
- Boat tour along the fjord — the only way to see the abandoned farms.
- Hike to Skageflå if the weather permits.
- Dalsnibba viewpoint at sunset.
What we hope to learn
How people farmed cliffs that lean over deep water — and why they finally stopped.
